OUR HISTORY
The Washington Metro Area Women’s Ministries organization was established in the early 1990s to meet the needs and concerns of women in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. It is governed by the Office of Women’s Ministries, Allegheny East Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Leaders and advisers are appointed by this body with a mandate to direct its local activities.
Our focus is to work with women’s ministries coordinators of the local churches and to aid them in the implementation of programs that will assist them as they seek to meet the needs of their congregations.
The group’s first activity was a statewide retreat held in November 1992 at the General Conference Headquarters of Seventh-day Adventists. Since that time, one-day and weekend retreats have been held biennially in an effort to motivate and energize the women of God–to deepen their faith; to aid in spiritual growth and renewal; to build networks among women in the world church; to encourage bonds of friendship; and to give mutual support through the creative exchange of ideas and information. Speakers, presenters and attendees from diverse faiths and geographic areas throughout the United States are invited to share in our ministry.

Washington Metro Area Women’s Ministries – with help from many of you – has supported local, national, and global projects. Included was aid to Katrina victims in Louisiana; financial assistance to meet special needs in South America; and the Havilah Village Project in Africa which aided in the construction and furnishing of a denominational boarding school. Special projects have allowed us to provide scholarships and financial aid to young women in our two junior academies and Pine Forge Academy.
It is our prayer that the Lord will continue to bless our efforts to bless you.

For the last twenty years it has indeed been my sincere honor and sincere privilege to work with dedicated and committed women who understand the role, opportunity and responsibility that we have as women to meet the ongoing needs of our sisters at home and abroad. Thank you for your support over the years. May God continue to bless this ministry, its constituents and leaders.
